When I was young, I thought graduation was far away, but soon enough, it came, just as it has come for you! It is a well-known saying that the older one grows, the faster time seems to pass. Because this is true and time will pass quickly for you, too.

I am glad I attended two excellent universities—Brigham Young University and Harvard University—and I encourage you to do the same; that is, earn a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from excellent universities. Often, it is good to earn your degrees from different universities. You will be glad you did. You will learn a lot at each university. The world will recognize you and will pay you well for doing so.

I am glad that I invested while I was young in my education and in my family. I recommend that you not delay getting an education or beginning a family. You will likely be able to work throughout your life to earn money; however, for most people it becomes harder to start a family or earn college degrees as you become older, so don’t delay getting your education or your marriage and family, if you want them.

Learn from others, but don’t compare yourself with others because your life is yours! No one can take your place, and you can take no one else’s place. However, you can enjoy many of the best things in life as you seek them in wisdom and in order.

I promise that as you do this—especially as you practice being thankful—you will receive many good things in your life.
